An e-petition has been launched on the Prime Minister’s website to campaign against ISPs who are throttling download speeds at peak times.
Dundee engineer, Lee Sexton, launched the campaign after his 8Mbps broadband connection was reduced to 14Kbps when playing online games. Several ISPs have implemented traffic shaping policies where customers who exceed a daily download limit have their speeds cut in half.
Speaking to PC Pro Sexton said, “Customers are being ripped off, they’re paying for a service that they’re not getting.” Mason went on to talk about the effect traffic shaping has on the environment as more and more people are leaving their computers on all night and for days on end to download patches for games, updates etc.
If you want to help Lee in his campaign to petition the Prime Minister to investigate ISPs who are oversubscribing their network and throttling speeds, you can sign his e-petition here.
